01/17/14 Congratulations to the Dexter Fire Department and Town of Brownville Joint Fire District on putting their newest piece of apparatus in service. A new HME/Ferrara custom engine with 1500 pump, foam system, hydraulic generator and stainless steel body. (Northern Fire Equipment)

11/10/13 Dexter's new Engine/pumper has arrived and is being setup for service out of Dexter station 1.. Pictures soon.

8/28/12  New York State's Move Over Law Has Changed Effective January 1, 2012
This law protects law enforcement officers, emergency workers, tow and service vehicle operators and other maintenance workers stopped along roadways while performing their duties.

Drivers must use due care when approaching an emergency vehicle that displays red and/or white emergency lighting: On all roads and highways, drivers must reduce speed.

On parkways and other controlled access highways with multiple lanes, when approaching an emergency vehicle that displays red and/or white emergency lighting or a hazard vehicle displaying flashing amber lighting, drivers must move from the lane immediately adjacent to the emergecy or hazard vehicle, unless traffic or other hazards exist to prevent doing so safely.
Penalties: Violations of this law are punishable as a moving violation.

 03/28/12 A three-week-old food pantry established in the basement of Dexter United Methodist Church received a surprise boost Wednesday from the Dexter Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Gerald A. Kostyk and a small group of volunteer firefighters arrived at the church, 210 W. Kirby St., in two fire trucks from the village fire hall and Pillar Point fire stations to deliver a check in the amount of $1,000.

02/18/12  Long day a 4 am fire call for those darn big bales on fire. 10 hrs and many 1000's of gallons of water we protected/ save a stg barn and several hundred other bales of hay. Thanks to Brownville fire, chaumont fire & Duck stop diner for the coffee. Then 3:30 tour of the new Plane/ set up and ARFF truck at the Dexter airport. Truck is ok but you wonder why they did/didn't do certain things.

11/09/11  As many of you are aware, on Wednesday, November 9th at 2:00pm EST, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), in conjunction with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and will be transmitted via television and radio stations across the U.S.

09/11/11  and Brownville Fire Depts. combined forces to field a color guard @ the memorial service today. It not only pays honor to those that died this faithful day in 2001, but also those members of the local Depts., that passed away in the past year.

06/24/11 After the Public Hearing on the proposed Fire District, it was determined that a Public Referendum (vote) will be held on August 31st 12noon till 8pm at the Town Hall.
This will be open to all Taxpayers in the Villages of Brownville & Dexter and the Town of Brownville.
Leading up to this will be Three Public Information sessions and informational hand outs at the Transfer site.

04/29/10 Due to the unforseen shortage of bullheads there will not be a feed this year.

04/24/10  The department and there guests celebrated another great year at our 131st. annual baquet full of tradition. Congratulation to Kyle Flath for reciving the award of firefighter of the year.

04/11/10   The Members of the Dexter Fire Department are deeply saddened by the loss of Assistant Fire Chief Garrett Loomis, Our prayers go out to his family.

7/17/08  Good News..Dexter's marching squad took 2nd in class A at the jefferson county fair.

6/25/08   Congratulations to Adam Reff, Chris Shear, Kyle Flath & Luke Peters for successfully completing the FF II Class. And Mike Bennett for successfully completing ALS.There were a lot of man hours involved for these people to complete these courses. Chief Kostyk.
